Hamlett named new coach of Chicago Fire

CHICAGO (Reuters) - 's have appointed former assistant Denis Hamlett as their new head coach, the team said on Friday.

Hamlett had worked under Colombian Juan Carlos Osorio, who left to take charge of the in December.

The former defender, who left for the U.S. when he was 10-years-old, has been with the Fire since their first MLS season in 1998 and was assistant coach from 2001.

"I'm confident he possesses the knowledge, skill-set and passion necessary to inspire and lead our team to future success...," said Fire owner Andrew Hauptman.
